CF-188
Millenium Commemorative Scheme |
The
Canadian Armed Forces are fortunate to have Commanders who permit Squadrons to
paint their aircraft in special commemorative schemes.
The most recent of these is the Millennium Jet, a specially painted CF-18
Hornet unveiled officially on 24 February at Cold Lake Air Force Base.
The Millennium Jet is dedicated to the Children of the World and their
future. It has 2,000 names of children from Cold Lake schools.
Gary Fairfull of 416 Lynx Squadron took the thumbnailed photographs below while the scheme
was still under wraps.
The in-flight photos were taken by Cpl Daren Kraus, of the 4 Wing Cold
Lake Photo Section. Cpl Kraus is a technician working for long-time friend of
HyperScale, Steve Sauve, who provided these fabulous photos.
Perhaps even more interesting is one of the only airborne photos taken of the
75th Anniversary jet and the Millenium jet together. The 75th jet is due for
repainting in the standard CAF tactical scheme very soon, so this formation is
unique.
Both colour schemes in this Gallery were designed and applied to the aircraft
by a plastic modeller! Civilian graphic artist Jim Belliveau is on staff at 410
'Cougar' Sqn, and has been designing these schemes each year since 1994. Jim is
also an active member of IPMS Cold Lake.
