Interpreting the Results

HyperScale received nearly 2,300 responses to its "WishList 2002" survey. There were a number of duplicate and anonymous submissions. After these were eliminated, there were a total of 2,078 valid responses. This compares to 508 valid responses in the last HyperScale WishList survey in 1999.

Each respondent was permitted one vote in each category. Not all respondents answered all the questions. This reflected the specific interests of the respondents. The number of responses to each category are listed in the results below.

Models with similar tooling were allocated to an aircraft “family” for the purpose of the survey. For example, responses nominating Tamiya’s 1/32 scale F-4C/D, F-4E and F-4J models were aggregated as “F-4”.

There was a wide variety of spelling and description of aircraft types. Regardless of spelling or terminology, all responses were allocated to the most likely aircraft type or family. For example, “Avenger”, “TBM”, “TBF” and “TBF-1C” were all allocated to “Avenger”.

Similarly, the spelling and description of manufacturers names varied widely. For example, responses labelled “Revell”, “R-M”, “Revellogram”, “ProModeler” and “Monogram” were all aggregated under the single category of “Revell”.
